No doubt about it, I was definitely born in the wrong era. My work is inspired by "old-skool" America and sign nostalgia from the early 20th Century up to the early 1960's. I live for old Googie signs that are an eye sore to most and road trips through the forgotten back roads of this glorious country. I am also a nature lover and feel happiest near an ocean, a mountain or in the desert. Route 66 is one of my favorite drives; especially through Arizona and New Mexico. If I had it my way, I'd live out of a tent or an RV and just travel all over the U.S. like a vagabond. I've always been a free spirit who's hungry for adventure and a person who strongly relates to a Bohemian lifestyle.
I didn't discover photography until later in life, but loved it so much that I went back to school in my mid-twenties to obtain my B.A. from the prestigious, Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, CA. A Southern California native, going to school in Santa Barbara was ideal because it was just like being home in the suburbs of Los Angeles where I grew up. Upon graduation, I went back to L.A. and worked in the film and music industries. Naturally an introvert, that lifestyle didn't appeal to me for long. With several magazine covers, a few music videos and a handful of music albums under my belt, I decided to leave the industry.
Longing for adventure away from the comforts of home, I moved abroad to S.E. Asia for a few years. It was great and something that a naive L.A. girl needed, but I quickly realized that nothing compared to life at home in the states! As soon as I got back, I got into my car and rediscovered my passion for the open road...and for freedom. It was also at that time that I embarked on my spiritual journey and subsequent awakening.
For the first time in my life, I'm in love! Not just with a wonderful and awakened soul, but with myself and the world around me. My images convey that feeling. As my spiritual journey continues to unfold and my life gets more colorful, so do the images that I create. I am mostly inspired by the natural world and the forgotten objects that are living harmoniously within it. And just as I am " in this world, but not of it "; so are the objects I choose to photograph. I hope you enjoy what you see.
In addition to photography, I'm a vegan, a Vipassana meditator, a Reiki practitioner, the owner of Smudgestickles.com and a jewelry designer.
